UPDATE:
so, some time passed and i've been following some of the rumors and discussions that were going on regarding the ending and here's what i think:
first of all, this indoctrination theory is BS, simply because that's what people always do when bad things happen...they start looking for clues and patterns that aren't
there because they have trouble dealing with the situation as it is, but the sad truth is that bioware made a mistake. period.
and this isnt really a surprise, thinking of how they fucked up dragon age 2 (i'm talking gameplay/leveldesign quality here, not story), there was a good chance something like that would happen to me3 aswell.
obviously the ending breaks with the rest of the game, because except for the last mission, this game was pure gold.
i think they ran out of time or budget (because that ending is such a huge quality drop, i can't imagine they would've greenlighted this if they weren't short of at least one of the two), or
maybe it has something to do with the leaked beta as some rumors say.
and finally: there's also a huge discussion out there if bioware should change the ending to please the fans or leave it as it is because of their artistic integrity.
but let's face it: the matter is simple. they are a company, ruled by a bigger company and if the fans are unhappy, they should fix it, because if they don't they will lose money in the short and in the long run.
it's not like they made the game to leave an artistic impact on the world, they made it because they wanted to earn money. each of the employees there makes a living out
of what they do and if they make mistakes, they have to take responsibility and try to rectify them, like people have to do in any other job aswell.
let's just hope if they deliver a "fixed ending" dlc, it'll be for free at least...
oh and before i forget, if you think it's all a matter of taste, here are some logical holes of the ending which definitely
display the overall lack of quality of it:
-anderson at the citadel, how did he manage to get there unharmed? why did harbinger leave after blowing the hammer squad away instead of guarding it further?
-how did my squadmates that stormed together with me end up in the normandy?
-how did the normandy end up in a mass-relay stream anyway? wasn't it engaged in a big space battle a minute ago?
-the catalysts solution to chaos or more specifically machine life rebelling against their creators and killing them is killing all advanced life with intelligent machines... - ???
and there's a funny line of kasumi during her sidequest with her saying that she can't infiltrate a reaper base and steal a big "I WIN" bomb - that's especially funny because if
you look at it, this is more or less what shepard does at the very end, lol.

i enjoyed the game alot for the most part, both the gameplay and the story, however the ending was somewhat disappointing...
WARNING: spoilers ahead!
there are two major things that really kill the ending for me.
the first: all the decisions i made throughout the previous games and even in this one don't actually matter a single bit.
you want a perfect ending, you just have to play mp or collect most of the war assets, which takes countless hours and what do you get? a third
possible ending which is like 5 seconds longer than the other two. yeah, right...totally worth it...
the other thing: all three endings are technically one ending! either you kill the reapers or control them, the outcome for the galaxy and the npcs
is absolutely the same, even visually those endings are not much different from each other! that really sucks!
i mean i've been playing 100% paragon and hit the "blue" button at the end...then out of curiosity i replayed the last part and hit the red one...just to
see almost the exact same ending scenes play...and of course the third ending with the aforementioned 5 seconds long "sheppard is still twitching" scene...
i don't know, but that kinda was a downer to the whole experience. which was great, no doubt ...i mean it was so friggin hard to decide if either the geth or the quarians should live or
if i should cure the krogan or not!
when the prothean vi was stolen right infront of my eye, i felt as exhausted as sheppard, this was really awesome.
but all of that didn't matter a bit in the end, i just had to make a final decision that wasnt really a decision...i hope bioware
is going to do something about it...like making a dlc that reworks the finale or offers more alternatve and especially different endings...i'd rather like to
see that than some random "let's add another mission or character for people to play with" dlc.
(btw, i bought the collectors edition, so i had javik along, which means i don't have to complain about paying another 10 bucks to get the "full" game)
well, those were my two cents on me3, tell me what you're thinking!

the only chance that this might come true is if bioware decides to make a new ending due to fan pressure and takes this as a starting point to work with.
I would almost be okay with the ending if there was anything remotely different about them, it gives you a choice of three options but it doesn't show you anything after that, so I just hope that even if bioware decides to keep the three endings, we get something that shows that our choice made a difference, like if I chose control it shows the Reapers rebuilding the Mass Relay system. Or If i chose destroy it shows how technology starts anew (since the Catalyst told me that the destroy option wouldn't last)
To see such a poor ending with no closure actually put me off doing so, because I just figured... whats the point? It doesn't change the three endings you get pitted with in spite of what choices you make. As bad as the ending was, I could have forgiven it, if I was offered closure to all the events that transpired before the end, but we got none of that. There were so many epic choices in the game, not all of them certainly benefitical in the long run if everyone managed to make it past the Reapers. I had my Shepard have a single goal in the game, and that was destroying the Reapers no matter the cost, so for me that meant making dangerous alliances for better or worse in the long run, so long as I got the job done. I had intentions to worry about potential mistakes later, and wondered many times what would come back to bite me in the arse.
Alas I never found out the outcome of many various decisions which was outright upsetting for me, and I'm somewhat glad if not cautious to hear bioware are rewriting the ending. Many complain that the ending is too grim, but I don;t mind that aspect of it as I couldn't see a complete happy ending by the end of the game with what was at stake. I just hope they offer more closure and something that makes more sense, rather then making a Return of the Jedi style ending in the rewrite. I suppose it can't be worse then what is already there. It was a stab in the back and now the second time Bioware has wronged people. At least the game was good as a whole, but the ending left a very bitter and unforgettable taste for me as I mentioned above.
starting with the first game, i was wondering if saving the rachni queen was right or not
and when i was contacted by that asari during the second game who told me that shep and the
rachni are "going to burn the shadows away" with their combined melodies i was like "fuck yeah,
this is gonna be so epic!" and then yeah...rachni workers for the crucible...fuck me.
the same with the geth and the quarians...i was able to unite them in the end...and for what?
a higher number on that war assets screen, great.
the worst thing of all is that bioware kept lying about the ending being totally different and extremely
complex and personal with many possibilities depending on our choices, this got me really pissed.
actually i would have been okay with the ending IF it was one possibility of many...but seeing
the same fucking thing happen in 3 different colors is a joke.
however instead of forcing a half-assed multiplayer on it, they should've
used their ressources to make the single player experience more complete.
and you're right, the gameplay of me3 is more enjoyable than the prequels, however
what it lacked in gameplay, me2 made up with the brilliant finale, which was simply
awesome. i mean anything was possible from perfect ending to shepard dying.
i remember the developers saying that it's entirely possible that the reapers are going
to win the last battle...yeah, thanks for lying, bioware.
actually making the endings better isn't that hard, an additional scene here and there and
it would've looked completely different.
for example: if you managed to unite the geth and the quarians, there should be a scene showing
them fighting reaper ships together, saving each others ass, if not, ships should be shown losing, or something like that.
that's really not too much work to do, just show the player that his or her hard work paid off at the end...
